Al Jamiul Azhar Jumma Masjid was founded on Friday, the 26th of September, 1958 (12 Rabiul Awwal, Hijri 1378) in Kayalpatnam (Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu). Daily prayers as well as the weekly Jumma (Friday) prayers are conducted in the Masjid. The sermon is in Tamil. It is one of the two places where Jumma prayers are held in Kayalpatnam.

The Masjid is centrally located - at the junction of KTM Street and Customs Road. About 1000 people can offer prayers in the Masjid.

Hifl classes are conducted within the Masjid premises. Regular bayans are given every weekend and during the entire month of Ramadhan.
